CERN is an international organization based in Geneva, founded in 1954. Its objective is cooperation between Member States in the field of purely scientific and basic research, in particular research into elementary particle physics. Electrons and positrons are accelerating here in the 27 km long circular Hadronic Accelerator, the world's largest instrument. The results of the experiments (eg the formation of a new form of matter after particle collision) are evaluated in particle detectors.
