Natural wealth of Slovakia
The most beautiful areas of Slovakia are in most cases included in National Parks, or areas with a lower degree of protection, but this is not always true. There are the most beautiful, most interesting and in some cases the best preserved natural monuments, but also places with a traditional economy, which gives the country a specific and unmistakable character. These areas are scattered throughout Slovakia, but some national parks are an exception and will not be included in the list.
The High Tatras
The smallest high mountains in the world
The highest slovak mountains – the High Tatras are the biggest tourist and climbing attraction all over the country. Their main 26 km long ridge practically does not fall below 2,000 meters above sea level. The highest peak – Gerlach (2655 m asl) is also the highest peak over the Carpathians. The main attractions are beautiful panoramas, mountain lakes, nice waterfalls and also local antelope – chamois. continue reading

The mountains intersect several hiking trails on which it is almost impossible to meet tourists. The dominant feature is the historic town of Banská Štiavnica, known mainly for its mining activities in the Middle Ages. The Poľana Protected Landscape Area is known mainly for its ascent to the eponymous peak, in addition to which it can offer a large number of hiking trails and attractions such as the Bystré waterfall. The area is not only known for its preserved beech to fir-beech forests, but also for its specific type of scattered settlement, which completes the color of this part of Slovakia.
