Nevado Sajama
The highest mountain in Bolivia
The massive volcano Nevado Sajama (6 542 m asl) is the highest mountain throughout Bolivia. Because it is a relatively easily accessible and walkable, it belongs among the favorite destinations of experienced tourists. Parinacota
The most beautiful volcano in the world
Among the most beautiful volcanoes of Bolivia and the whole world, there is, by a white cap decorated, Parinacota (6 342 m asl). Although the most fashionable exit trails lead to it from Bolivia, the most beautiful view is from the Chilean side of Lake Chungara. Together with the neighboring Pomerape Volcano (6,282m asl), they are called „two mountains“ after the Payachata in Ayamu. continue reading

The Pomerape volcano (6,282 m above sea level) is the smaller of the Payachata pair of „two mountains“ and is also less beautiful, so it is also significantly less climbed than the neighboring Parinacota. At the southern end of Sajama National Park is a group of four volcanoes. The highest of them is Acotango (6,052 m above sea level). Uturuncu
The easiest six thousender in the world
Volcano Uturuncu has two peaks and the main peak has slightly over six thousand meters above sea level. According to the maps 6 008 m asl, according to GPS 6 025 m asl. The east peak (5 930 m asl) is only slightly smaller. It is one of the few places in the world, where you get above six thousand meters above sea level easily by hiking. In addition, the ascent is made easier by a small road leading up to the pass (5 750 m asl) between the two peaks, where once used to be a small mine for sulfur. South end of Nevados de Quimsachata
The southern end of the volcanic ridge Nevados de Quimsachata is closed by the beautiful volcano Cerro Capurata (5,990 m above sea level), which is only ten meters missing from the magical border of 6,000 meters above sea level. Farther to the north from Licancabur lies another huge volcanic massif with relatively featureless peaks. The highest of these is Sairecabur (5 971 m asl). One of the most typical Bolivian scenery is the view from the lagoon Verde of volcano Licancabur (5 960 m asl) lying directly on the border with Chile. Cerro Caňapa is one of a number of five thousand meters high volcanoes located near the Chilean-Bolivian border. This peak rises just a short distance from the lagoon of the same name. It also belongs among the little-known mountains, where only a few tourists set out. It is interesting that the border between Bolivia and Chile does not lead here throughout volcanic ridges as usually, but along a straight line connecting the tops of volcanoes Araral and Ollagüe, so this volcano belongs entirely into Bolivia. continue reading

Ollagüe volcano (5 868 m asl) is one of high volcanoes on the volcanic Chilean-Bolivian border. Thanks to the smokey fumarole field a short distance from the top and relatively nice cone it is one of the easily identifiable peak lying just a short distance from the huge salar de Uyuni. Cerro Tomasamil (5 830 m asl) belongs to a series of beautifully colored volcanoes. It is well visible from salar de Chiguana. But it is not a frequent tourist destination because relatively nearby is better-known volcano Ollagüe. continue reading

Condoriri volcano is basically a large ridge, so different from the beautiful cones of Parinacota or Pomerape. For tourists, this mountain is interesting mainly because it has a number of beautiful lagoons. Few people go to their own peak. continue reading

The smallest of Nevados de Quimsachata
Mount Umurata (5,730 m above sea level) is the first significant peak on the volcanic ridge Nevados de Quimsachata. Right next door, however, is the much higher Acotango (6,052 m above sea level), so it is definitely not the main destination for tourists. Volcano in the shadow of Licancabur
Volcano Juriques (5 704 m asl) is situated right next to the iconic Licancabur. Because it has a huge crater instead of a peak, it does not look from distance as interesting as its more famous neighbor. On the other hand, the view from its top may be a bit more interesting than from Licancabur. Significantly easier ascent trail to it leads from the Bolivian side. continue reading

Border mountain Cerro Araral (5 688 m asl) is beautifully visible from Hedionda lagoon. It is one of its landmarks on the horizon. It is surrounded by salar Ascotan from the Chilean side. It is certainly not the most typical and frequent destination of tourists. continue reading

Cerro Quisiquisini (5,525 m above sea level) is a bit forgotten in the Sajama National Park. The magnificent 6,000-strong volcanoes Sajama, Parinacota and Pomerape rise in its vicinity, which attract most tourists and climbers. At the same time, this volcano located on the Bolivian-Chilean border, directly above Lake Chungara, offers wonderful views of the surroundings. continue reading

A lone giant
The Cerro Chorolque volcano (5,520 m above sea level) rises above the surrounding landscape in a truly unmissable way. It also exceeds the surrounding ridges and peaks by more than a kilometer. At its foot, there is also an interesting mining village of Santa Barbara (4,750 m above sea level), boasting that it is the highest mining settlement in the world. continue reading

Volcano bursting with colors
The Patilla Pata volcano (5,477 m above sea level) is one of the least significant in the Sajama National Park. Thanks to the colored eroded slopes, it is still quite interesting. Most tourists only walk close to it when it reaches the high lagoon Chiar Kota. continue reading
Chacaltaya
The former world's highest ski slope
Chacaltaya is basically not very interesting mountain. Rather, it's just such a lackluster peak. What makes it interesting is the outlook from it of the surrounding glaciated giants and most importantly, that it is easily accessible five thousand meters high mountain as the small road leading to the mountain hut ends just a little more than a hundred vertical meters below the peak. Tourist often come here to see the place, where used to be the highest ski resort in the world once (before the glacier forever melted). continue reading

Volcano with blasted peak
Cerro Tunupa (5 321 m asl) is a mountain of salar de Uyuni. It is visible almost from everywhere. It's a type of volcano, which had lost almost its entire cone thanks to the massive explosion It now abounds with all the colors and there is a quite interesting view of it. If you plan the ascents on the Altiplano, it's an interesting acclimatization mountain. For tourists, however, only pre-summit (5 166 m asl) is easily accessible as the main peak is sharp rock on the other side of the crater. continue reading

Mountain full of silver
Cerro Rico „rich mountain“ is dominating the city of Potosi and it was the largest source of silver for medieval Spain. Only few tourist embarks on top of the mountain (even if it leads dirt road) to see Potosi from above. Most goes into the bowels of the mountain to get to know burdensome life of miners. continue reading
