They been there:

Sal Rei has only less than 6,000 inhabitants, yet it is the largest and capital city of the island of Boa Vista. You'll find a few restored historic buildings here, but overall the city looks rather dilapidated and bleak. There are two beaches right in the city, others are to the north of it. Right in the center is a small harbor – more to the west is a large one. Directly from the city, you can take a walk to the Fatima chapel or take a boat to the islet of Sal Rei with the rest of the fortress.

Praça Sal Rei

The center of the city is Praça Sal Rei. There is currently construction work going on here, so the square is quite dug up. Most of the historic houses are located here – many of them are unfortunately in a rather deplorable condition.

A fountain near the museum

Another monument of the city is the museum of archeology – Museu de Arqueologia da Boa Vista, which you can find in another small square with a non-functional fountain.

A walk through the streets of the city

In the western direction from the main square, you can walk through several historic streets going uphill. There are also a few picturesque houses here..

The eastern part of Sal Rei

The eastern part of Sal Rei is like a new part of the city with two to three story buildings. But it is not a great beauty.

Post-apocalyptic landscape

In some places on the outskirts of the city, post-apocalyptic movies could be made, with the backdrops already there

Embankment with cafes and restaurants

It is better to return to the waterfront, where it looks much better. Sea view and restored historic houses with restaurants.

Praia d'Diante beach

There are two beaches in the city. On the smaller Praia d'Diante, right next to the small port, mainly local children swim
