Beautiful rocks with caves right next to the sandy beach
The third stop on the off-road trip along the southern coast of Boa Vista is a short walk along the Praia da Varandinha beach. The attraction here is the eroded rocks in which the sea water has created a number of caves. The sandy part of the beach itself is also very nice.
Desolate desert landscape
From Turtle Bay to Varandinha Beach, you drive along a dirt road along the coast. The surrounding landscape is desolate and arid. The road is only suitable for off-road vehicles.
Wild donkeys
If someone were to ask me about a few typical things about Boa Vista, one of them would be the wild donkeys that roam freely in large numbers throughout the island.
Varandinha Beach
Praia da Varandinha is a beautiful sandy beach about 1.5 kilometers long. Just a typical Boa Vista beach.
The road to the caves
This beach is not open for swimming. Of interest are several caves carved by the sea in the cliff. The cliff is at the southern end of the beach, where the Ponta Varandinha peninsula is located. Also in the rocks is the famous Black and White Lighthouse.
The first cave
The first cave is located right at the edge of the beach. Inside, there is a whole series of rock men.
Cliff climbing
You can diversify your visit to this place by climbing the rocks for new views. During our visit, the sea level was higher, so the second cave was no longer accessible.
View from the cliff
It is also easy to get to the cliff itself. From there, there is a nice view of both the rocks and the entire beach.
Parking
Since this is the most popular trip on the island, it's no wonder there are so many off-road vehicles here. So after about half an hour we continue on.
