The walk from Sal Rei to the Capela de Nossa Senhora de Fátima is probably the most classic walk from the capital of Boa Vista. Be sure to bring your bathing suit, because you will come across several beaches along the way. Beyond the beach, you'll also see the rocky coast and the volcanic wasteland of the interior. The chapel itself is nicely restored and there is no live music (except when organized tours come here)

Dropout to the north

After passing the center of Sal Rei, head north along the ramp. It is more than a kilometer along the coast. On the one hand, you have smaller accommodations (using tourists who buy a ticket + accommodation. The big hotel resorts where those who bought a tour go are outside the city). From the other is the long beach of Praia de Cabral

Praia de Cabral

Praia de Cabral (sometimes also referred to as Praia de Cruz) is a practically deserted beach in Duluth.

Retrospect

Praia de Cabral is ended by a smaller dune, from which there is a view back to the city and to the huge breakwater protecting the port.

In front of Praia de Cruz beach

On the other side of the sand dune, you can already see the most beautiful beach here – Praia de Cruz. The horizon is then dominated by Rochinha hill (130 m)

Praia de Cruz beach

Praia de Cruz is certainly the most beautiful beach at least around Sal Rei

Black volcanic cliffs

Right at the end of the beach there are black volcanic cliffs and the chapel on the horizon can be seen clearly from here.

Beach next to Cruz Beach

Another beach is marked on the map right next to Praia de Cruz, but it is definitely not ideal for swimming due to the rocks.

Beautiful walkway

At the foot of the mountain is the vast Hotel Marine Club and below it is a freely accessible cobbled path that comfortably moves you closer to the chapel.

Marine Club Hotel

Unlike other resorts in Boa Vista, however, this hotel is not located directly on a long sandy beach.

Hidden Beach Sal Rei

After the pavement ends, a comfortable footpath awaits you in the volcanic landscape. Another attraction on this walk is this beautiful Hidden Beach.

The journey through the inhospitable plains

The last few hundred meters are already on an inhospitable wasteland.

You will find several similar chapels on Boa Vista, this one is probably the most famous

Rochinha (130 m) from the other side

Rochinha (130 m) is even more interesting from this side – there are several caves below its peak.

For those who have more time, it is definitely worth exploring this mountain more, both the cave and the view from the top.
