Today, the town of Al Ayjah is just a suburb of Sur. Basically, this is the most interesting part of it. Here you will find an old castle and a large lighthouse, lots of watchtowers, which nowadays serve as great views of the surroundings. You can also take a bath here. From the Surah it is connected by a large bridge, which also serves as a nice viewpoint.

Ascent to the lookout tower

It is best to start the tour of Al Ayjah by climbing the watchtower. The obvious route starts from the car park at one of the shops at the southern end of town.

Ancient tombs on a ridge

The eastern part of the town is notched by a not very photogenic ridge, but the remains of two old tombs can be seen on it – a possible inspiration for exploration
