Sur is the easternmost city of Oman, located east of the Hajar Mountains. This coastal area is partly mountainous thanks to the Jabal Khamis ridge and partly desert. The coast is protected because it is a popular place for turtles to lay eggs. The best known location is around the peninsula Ras Al Jinz
