The center of northeastern Oman
The city of Sur is located on the northeastern tip of Oman. It is famous mainly for shipbuilding and brave sailors. Today you will find two well-preserved castles, interesting docks where classic Omani ships are built and a port promenade. Next door is the photogenic town of Al Ayjah

If you are coming to Sur from Muscat, you will come across the first monument on the outskirts of the city – Bilad Sur Castle

The most famous monument, however, is Sunayslah Castle, standing on a hill above the city. There is a large parking lot and a visitor center

Docks in Sur
A very interesting place in Sur are the docks, where typical Omani wooden boats are still made. It is possible to freely walk around and watch the work on the ships

From the docks you can see nicely across the bay to the watchtower on the hill – the best view far and wide, it is worth climbing despite the Omani heat

Right next to the dock is the bridge to the town of Al Ayjah. From the bridge there is a nice view of the whole docks

From the bridge you can also see the watchtowers in Al Ayyah, which is a more interesting and photogenic town than Sur
