Ladakh, located in the far north of India, attracts travelers not only with its mountainous landscape with great trekking opportunities, but also with authentic Buddhist culture, not limited here as in neighboring Tibet. With this great circuit you will visit practically all the interesting places that this beautiful area has to offer.

How to get to Ladakh

Three ways to start this great journey

A new and easy and cheap starting point for trips to Ladakh is New Delhi. From there you have three ways to get to Ladakh. – ** By air to Leh **: the simplest option, but a bit impractical if you want to do a complete circuit. – ** By bus via Himachal Pradech **: unfavorable for a start due to high altitude, ideal rather as a return trip – ** By bus / plane via Kashmir **: Ideal for us, when in addition outside Ladakh you can even get to know the green for a few days Cashmere

Traveling western Ladakh

From Kashmir, head across the Himalayas and the Zoji-La saddle to Western Muslim Ladakh. Here is the most beautiful place of the Suru valley

Traveling in West Ladakh

At the interface of cultures

Most travelers just pass through West Ladakh on their way from Kashmir to Leh or vice versa, or on their way to Zanskar, and that's a shame. The Suru Valley in particular, below the 7,000-meter Nun and Kun, has a lot to offer. Moreover, Western Ladakh is a little different from its more famous and visited larger part located around India. The „line of control“ border with Pakistan dividing the original territory of Kashmir between the two countries is only a few kilometers away. continue reading

Trekking in Zanskar

  • If you are not just going to travel on small tours, continue from the Suru valley to Zanskar and from there take the so-called Zanskar trek (Padum – Lamayuru trek) to Lamayuru. In the old itineraries, this trek is mentioned for 8 days, but thanks to the extension of the road on both sides, it only takes days 5. – Otherwise you have to return by bus back to Kargil and from there continue to Lamayur – ideal for a break and tour and to Leh

Kargil - Léh

Journey from Muslim to Buddhist Ladakh

Rating:
| Altitude: 4 094 m / 13 432 ft

The road from Kargil to Leh overcomes two high passes Namika la and Fotu la la in a typical ladack landscape of arid mountains and green oases. Halfway is also interesting Buddhist monastery Lamayuru with renowned colorful festivals. The road then leads through the valley of Indus, where it is worth to stop in Likir monastery. A short way from the village Nimu is interesting confluence of river Zanskar with Indus, each of which has a slightly different color of water. Generally, there is always something to look at on this journey through Ladakh.   continue reading

Week 2

Leh and surroundings

The second week (including a drive from West Ladakh) you can dedicate Leh and its surroundings, including the beautiful Buddhist monasteries in the Indus Valley or the Khardung la saddle.

Heart of Ladakh

| Altitude: 3 700 m / 12 139 ft

For most tourists is Leh (3 520 m asl) gateway to interesting landscape called Ladakh. In order to gain acclimatization to even greater heights, it is certainly worth to explore not only the old town, but also the surrounding mountains. The main places of interest in Leh are monumental royal palace Little Potala, Namgyal Tsemo gompa or beautiful Shanti stupa. You can do a quick tour in one day, but if you want to walk around you can quietly count with five days   continue reading

Markha Trek or Stok Kangri

Other great trekking opportunities can be found near Léh. You can try to climb the six thousand Stok Kangri or have a classic but beautiful Markha trek

Markha trek

The most typical trek in Ladakh

Rating:
| Altitude: 5 276 m / 17 310 ft

There is perhaps no more traditional trek in Ladakh than walk through Markha valley, during which you will see in just one week nearly all types of landscapes that are offered by Ladakh. Markha river flows parallel with Indus, from which it is separated by the ridge of Stok mountain range. To the south are Zanskar mountains with massive peak of Kang Yatse. On the trek you will experience not only crossing of the five thousand high pass, but also several fordings of the river  continue reading

Week 3

Nubra, Pangong Tso, Tso Moriri and the way back

Last week, choose some of the beautiful trips to Karakoram, India or the desolate region of Rupsha. Finally, a long epic drive to Himachal Pradesche awaits you.

Trip to lake Pangong tso

Trip to emerald lake

Rating:

One of the nicest trips you can undertake in Ladakh, is to lake Pangong tso. Along the way you will cross more than five thousand meters above sea level high pass Chang la and enjoy the view of beautiful monastery Chemrey. continue reading

Along the road from Leh to Manali

Epic road through the Himalayas

Rating:
| Altitude: 5 328 m / 17 480 ft

Long road between Leh and Manali overcomes five very high passes. The highest of them – Taglang la (5 328 m asl) is also one of the highest motorized passes in the world. Along the way you will enjoy views not only of Ladack „moonscape“ and high Himalayan peaks. The more you are in the south, the landscape is greener. In Lahaul valley you will see a lot of interesting waterfalls. Finally will await you passage of the pass Rohtang, which is the lowest of all, but also the wettest and muddiest, so there are a lot of landslides. Moreover, it is a popular place for Indians from lowlands, so there are incredible crowds in recent years. In addition, several places on this road are also starting points to terrific treks, so if you grow fond of Ladakh, you will pass here several times.   continue reading
