Walks in the north direction from the center of Leh can take you to a nice chorten (3750 m asl) situated on the ancient moraine. It is hard to believe that up here once led the glacier. But the fields under the moraine watered by glacial water leads significantly further, almost to four thousand meters above sea level.

You can get to the ancient moraine with a lone chorten in three ways. The first is a descent on an alternative path from Tsemo Namgyal gompa and then continue further to the north along the asphalt road. You can then see to see an interesting composition of chortens right at the beginning. Or go to the north along the road leading from Shanti stupa. The third option is to get off during the return from a trip to Khardung la pass in places where the road approaches the most the agricultural oasis and come to him from the „other“ side.

Chortens along the road

You do not need to climb anywhere high to the hills, the beautiful chortens can be seen also along road. Stok Kangri is visible on the horizon.

White cap of Nanga Sago mountain

There are nice views of the mountain Nanga Sago on the walk. It still has a nice snow cap at the beginning of the season. Its small glacier is on the north side, so it is not even visible from Leh.

From chorten you can see the fertile bottom of former glacier and the other side of moraine straight as a line, along which leads the asphalt road to the world famous Khardung la pass.
