The area around the northernmost village of Chamorga is a real paradise for trekkers. There are a number of interesting trails that will take you into the dense vegetation of the foggy forest and great viewing places, from which you can see the wild coast of the Anaga Mountains.

Chamorga

The TF-123 road ends in Chamorze. It just doesn't work anymore. From the small car park, where there is also a final bus stop, we set off along a narrow path through the dense vegetation of the laurel forest to the Cruz del Draguillo saddle.

Laurel forest

It is typical for the whole ridge part of the Anaga mountains. It is also sometimes called the misty forest, because the peaks of the Anaga are often shrouded in clouds. I admit that, I admit, I like it even more. But today we are unlucky: the sun is shining, the sky is almost cloudless.

El Draguillo

From the saddle we turn left and climb to the lookout below the top of Cabezo del Tejo. For a moment there is a view of the small village of El Draguillo. A circular path leads through it around the northernmost part of Anaga and the village is famous for its great dragon.

Cabezo del Tejo

The steep climb paid off. We enjoy the view of the NE coast, the village of Almáciga and Roque de Dentro.

We descend back to the Cruz del Draguillo saddle and continue up the ridge to a long stone, from which there is another view of the north coast.

Houses of Tafada

The ridge path eventually descends to an old stone building that once served as a storehouse for livestock. From here, the path leads both down to the coast and further along the ridge to an unmissable landmark, to which we are also heading.

Mount Tafada

In front of us is very close the destination of today's trip, a lookout point, from which there is an unforgettable view of the northernmost part of Tenerife and its coast.

Roque de Dentro

There are several rocky islands off the rugged coastline, which are nature reserves. The largest of them is 178 meters high Roque de Dentro.

Anaga

The northernmost part of the Anaga Mountains is the „Reserva Natural Integral de Ijuana“. Endemic eonium grows all around.

North coast

The north of Tenerife is guarded by the Faro de Anaga lighthouse. 240 meters below is the small fishing village of Roque Bermejo.

From Montana Tafada we go back along a marked path directly to Chamorga, the starting point of our journey through the northernmost part of the island.
