A closed but even more beautiful trail on the island of Tenerife passes along the northwest coast from two small villages from Chamonga to Benijo, the whole route is about 10 kilometers long and can be managed in about 3 hours, why so long? Because, as I mentioned, the road is closed, it leads along the coast and there are several sections where you need to be very careful.

The beginning of the trek

The trek begins with the ascent to the „top“ of Roque del Pilón, which is the only ascent on the route, the beginning of the route is open to the public.

The introduction trek passes through typical rainforests found on the northwestern tip of the island.

Ridge

After a short ascent, you walk along a small ridge to the lookout, which is a bit outside the tourist route, but along the sidewalk, everyone passes through it and the original route is bypassed.

Ocean

The view opens up a view of the ocean

Mountains

Not only the ocean, but also the surrounding mountains have a wonderful view.

Descent

From the viewpoint and the summit, you descend to the lighthouse, where the road leads to the right and descends to the nearest village, but our trail leads to the left according to the tourist maps, although there are no signs here and it is very easy to miss the trail along the coast.

Ocean

During the whole trek, we wander around the rock protruding from the ocean, from which the birds „singing“ is constantly heard.

Tits

Throughout the journey, we are accompanied by such goats, which are the only wild animals we have encountered during our trip to the island of Tenerife.

Sidewalk

The condition of the sidewalk is improving in places, in some places it worsens this is one of the better sections, but in many places the road was covered and it was necessary to bypass such places through the surrounding terrain.

Lost sidewalk

In the background you can see one of the buried places, which could not even be avoided, and all the time the stones escaped from under your feet.

Fields

The tenacity and ingenuity of the islanders in the past was very great, as they lived in such inhospitable places.

Las Palmas

In the foreground is the settlement of Las Palmas, where we planned to buy some water or beer, but as we found out, it consisted of only about 5 houses, which are inhabited but were well in our transition. Despite the fact that the permanent settlement of the locals has been seen here they have a very difficult life and we estimate that only the last few older people survive here and the young have gone to live in the cities.

Las Palmas

During the whole crossing of the Las Palmas settlement, we cross such a path and listen to the constant rumble of dogs from home, which convinces us of the suitability of continuing only on the road.

Peaks

During the whole trek we walk under the ridge, which stretches along the coast.
