From Hrebienok to Zbojnická chata
The path from Hrebienok (1285 m asl) through Velká Studená dolina (= Great Cold Valley) to Zbojnická chata (= Brigand´s hut) (1960 m asl) offers beautiful views especially of jagged Prostredný hřebeň (= the Middle ridge). The higher you are, the more interesting the way is. The nicest part is at the far end of this hike at Zbojnická chata with beautiful views of the final couloir of the valley and the beautiful mountain lakes, which are here the most numerous in the whole High Tatras. For most tourists is Zbojnická chata not the final destination and continue through Prielom pass (2290 m asl) to Litvorová or Velická dolina (= valley) or descend here from circular hike through Priečné sedlo (= The transverse pass).
Views to the peaks
The path from Hrebienok leads first to the oldest hut in the High Tatras – to Rainer's hut. There are then two further options – either along the Tatra highway or along more interesting path around waterfalls of Studený potok (= Cold Creek). Both options are quite crowded. You can see only the tops of the mountains for the time being. You can have some food before the long ascent up the valley at the hut.
Prostredný hrebeň
The path rises along Velký Studený potok (= the Great Cold creek) with nice views of the jagged Prostredný hrebeň.
Velká Studená dolina
Velká Studená dolina is full of all colors In the autumn.
Rock canines
The forest moves backwards over time and the valley opens more and more. Beautiful rock spikes tower above the tourist.
Strelecká Veža (= The turret) (2130 m as
The second half of the ascent is dominated by Strelecká Veža (= The turret) rising above the rocky field. Velký Studený potok flows here contentedly among the scrub pines and fields of golden grass.
Dominant of Strelecká Veža
The High Tatras are the most beautiful during good weather in early autumn. At this point the tourist path branches off from Velký Studený potok, which flows down from steep slope, behind which hides its spring in Ladové pleso (2057 m asl). The path begins to be more challenging from here.
In front of Zbojnická chata
Along a rocky path at some places secured with a chain you come to Dlhé pleso (= Long mountain lake), from where you can see the destination of this stage – Zbojnická chata.
Panorama of Sesterské pleso (= Sister´s
After about 3 hours of ascent from Hrebienok there is the destination – Zbojnická chata (1960 m asl). Right behind it at the tourist crossroads there are in the vicinity of Sesterské pleso (= the Sister´s mountain lake) the most beautiful sceneries of this trip. It is definitely worth to reserve time to admiring here.
Sesterské pleso
The banks of Sesterské pleso explicitly invite you to relax before the next walk.
Crossroads in the direction of Priecné s
At Zbojnická or rather at Sesterske pleso you need to decide how to continue – either go further up in the direction of pass Prielom (2288 m asl) or in a direction Priečné sedlo – but this is recommended as one way from Malá Studená dolina, or return the same way back, which is about half an hour less than the ascent.
View in the direction of Prielom pass
If you decide to continue to pass Prielom, you will nicely see already from Zbojnicka chata what is waiting for you. From left to right: Kupola (2414 m asl), Východná Vysoká (2428 m asl) – Prielom pass – Divá věž (2373 m asl)
