Green ridge towering from the southern shore of Lake Phewa offers beautiful outlooks of extensive rice fields on its slopes and in good weather also of the glaciated peaks of Annapurnas. In addition, you will meet here only minimum tourists and you would not even guess that right next door is the second busiest city in Nepal – Pokhara. There are basically two starting points for this trip – from World peace stupa (1 100 m asl), where you can get in a taxi or from Chatichhina (850 m asl), where you can walk along the lakeshore.

Suspension bridge in Chatichhina

More difficult version of the hike over the ridge Nehyeaal Danda begins in Ghatichhina. After crossing the bridge over Harpan Khola await you the second suspension bridge over Handi Khola.

Above Chatichhina

Once you pass the suspension bridge, continue on along the narrow path through the rice paddies. After a while, the trail begins to rise and you will have a nice view of Chatichhina and valley of Harpan Khola, from which becomes a wild canyon just a short way from the village.

Path through rice paddies

Even though most tourists go to Nepal mainly because of the views on glaciated eight-thousanders, the treks through green foothills have also a great charm.

The first village

After half an hour you come to the first village located 150 altitude meters above the valley.

Ascent path

During the ascent you will intersect „road“ several times, or rather muddy path appropriate only for a good jeep. This, however, rises with long bends, so it is better, if possible, keep the original endless stone stairs connecting the individual homesteads.

Rice amphitheater

The road actually rises along the side ridge, which together with the opposite ridge creates a huge amphitheater full of rice terraces. Alternatively, you can come back down the road on the second ridge, if you do not want to undertake a complete hike.

View of the valley of Khahare Khola

After an hour and a half from Ghatechhina turns the path to the east and traverses along the contour line the slope. Now also opens the breathtaking view of the valley of Khahare Khola, you overcame on the interesting footbridge during the walk along Lake Phewa.

Outlook of Lake Phewa

If you do not want to walk too much or do not plan to go down the second ridge down, do not cross roughly after 250 meters in traverse the path rising straight up. After a while you can join again the jeep road and after a few meters higher, another nice view of Lake Phewa far below you will open.

View from the ridge

The ascent to the ridge Nehyeaal Danda will take you more than an hour. From the pass at about 1 500 m asl opens a lovely view of the opposite valley, where leads Siddhartha Highway in the direction of Lumbini and India.

Continuation of the hike

The continuation of the hike has several variants. You can walk on the ridge trails up to World Peace Stupa, or descend at a suitable place to the main road and hitchhike a bus or car to Pokhara.
