Outlook hill Poon Hill (3 193 m asl) is one of the favorite destinations of tourists who have only a few days, but also want to see Himalayan panorama, or for those who are undertaking long and relatively difficult trek around Annapurnas. Most people start here from the village of Ghorepani at sunrise, when is the ridge with eight thousand high mountain Dhaulagiri nicely lit. Of course, you can clearly see also Annapurna I. and Annapurna South. There are really disgusting crowds at sunrise here, but you just need to wait until organized expeditions leave and you will be on the top almost alone.

Poon Hill

From Ghorepani (2 858 m asl) you still have nearly 350 vertical meters to from distance totally insignificant hill Poon Hill. Weren´t it for the amazing views from its top, nobody would probably come here.

Most visitors set off more than an hour before daybreak to be on the top early and not to miss the sunrise. The way up is often quite slippery and is surrounded by thickets of rhododendrons. It is here charming in the spring when all the rhododendrons bloom beautifully.

Dhaulagiri massif

At the top of the hill there is a small lookout making the view better as you can look to all directions. Western horizon is dominated by the entire massif of Dhaulagiri, whose main peak exceeds the valley below you by whopping seven kilometers, which the biggest difference in the world.

Dhaulagiri (8,167 m asl)

The main peak of Dhaulagiri exceed the other peaks in the massif by more than 500 altitude meters, so it looks very impressive from all sides. Perhaps this is the reason, why it was considered more than 30 years as the highest mountain in the world.

Annapurna South and Annapurna I

Northeast view is dominated by the pyramid of Annapurna South, which is only about 17.5 km away. On the left from it is unimpressive peak of eight-thousand high mountain Annapurna I. – Machhapuchhre alias fish tail, which is this time unfortunately in a big backlit.

Annapurna South and Annapurna I

There is almost divine silence an hour after dawn on Poon Hill and the views northwards are starting to be considerably better than early in the morning. Due to perspective and distance seems Annapurna I (8,091 m asl) smaller than Annapurna South (7 219 m asl), which is in fact significantly lower.

Dhaulagiri VI.

Far horizon is dominated by the glaciated peak of Dhaulagiri VI. (7 268 m asl).

After admiring the views await you the same way back to Ghorepani, where you can choose one of three paths and continue walking on Himalayan hills.
