Iconic rock formations and breathtaking views

The beautiful center of Gran Canaria offers a truly breathtaking spectacle of volcanic rock formations. The most cult is Roque Nublo (1732 m), the highest peak is Pico de las Nieves (1949 m). We are above the trade wind clouds, so we can see the dominant feature of neighboring Tenerife, the stratovolcano Pico de Teide (3718 m above sea level). The moist, blooming north contrasts sharply with the arid south. Café Cortado is best enjoyed amidst the backdrop of the mountains in Tejeda.
Fataga
From the south we climb the GC-60 road and pass the nice village of Fataga, which is worth a visit.

In the middle of the mountains
In a place called Aycata, we turn right onto the GC-600 road, our destination is the car park, from where the road leads to Roque Nublo. It is good to leave in the morning, after 10 o'clock it is often very difficult to find a place to park.

Roque Nublo
So this is one of the most famous symbols of the island of Gran Canaria. After a short ascent, we are on a long plateau, which we approach a distinctive rock formation.

West view
We get to the very edge of the abyss. From here there is an aerial view of the west coast, overseas invites to visit neighboring Tenerife with its dominant, the stratovolcano Pico de Teide (3718 m)

Pico de Teide
If you haven't been to Tenerife yet, the view of the sleeping volcano from the central part of Gran Canaria is a really great invitation.

In the middle of the mountains
From Roque Nublo, however, there is a fantastic view of the whole area full of rock formations and steep slopes.

Two symbols
We continue along the GC-600 road and then turn right onto GC-130. Our next destination is the Pico de las Nieves, 1949 m above sea level, the highest point of the island of Gran Canaria and also a great place to photograph two symbols.

Blooming island
Take the GC-150 road along the ridge that separates the wetter north from the central part of the island. There is a completely different, beautifully blooming world.

Tejeda
At the Cruz de Tejeda saddle, we turn onto the GC-15 road, which descends to the town of Tejeda.

Tejeda
In the backdrop of volcanic torn rocks and peaks is a pleasant town with narrow streets, in which we find the opportunity for refreshments.

Central part of the island
We continue along the GC-60 and stop briefly at Montaña del Humo, from where there are slightly different views of the central part of the island of Gran Canaria.

Fataga
On the way back, we stop in the nice village of Fataga, which we just missed in the morning.
