Gran Canaria - the center of the island
Iconic rock formations and breathtaking views
The beautiful center of Gran Canaria offers a truly breathtaking spectacle of volcanic rock formations. The most cult is Roque Nublo (1732 m), the highest peak is Pico de las Nieves (1949 m). We are above the trade wind clouds, so we can see the dominant feature of neighboring Tenerife, the stratovolcano Pico de Teide (3718 m above sea level). We climb an attractive mountain road to the dam reservoir near the village of Soria. There used to be a lot of water here, and a large waterfall fell from the surrounding rocks. We are convinced of that in the local restaurant in old photos. Drought also reached the Canary Islands. continue reading

Aldea de San Nicolás is considered to be the most remote town on the island. After visiting the cactus fields, we head along the cliffs of the west coast to the north to the valley of Agaete. There is a winery in Los Berrazales, where it also roasts its own coffee. continue reading

By car through the mountainous south
Puerto de Mogán, one of the most beautiful places on the island, attracts with its marina full of yachts and narrow streets with restaurants and cafes. They have great fish here. The road leading inland leads us around the old mill, and then we turn off a very narrow asphalt road into the interior of the volcanic torn landscape. We pass several dam reservoirs and through San Bartolomé we return around the blooming aloe vera back to the south coast. continue reading
