From Wadi Bani Khalid to Wahiba Sands

The road to Wadi Bani Khalid is blind, so you will return a few tens of kilometers the way you have already traveled, but it is an interesting route so it does not matter at all. The road in Wadi is surrounded by huge boulders

The road rises above the valley and here you turn to the inhabited visitor center. There is a great view of the whole valley and the surrounding mountains

The road continues through the valley through two towns, where it is possible to replenish supplies or have lunch, so that it then ascends to the mountain pass about 810 m above sea level. From here, a long descent to the lowlands awaits you. The mountains of sand in Wahiba Sands can already be seen on the horizon. The asphalt is new beautiful. It used to have to be a pretty interesting way on gravel

After descending from the mountains, there are only desolate cemeteries around. In a moment you will connect to the main road No. 23

The fact that you are approaching the desert will be suggested by a herd of camels by the island

From the main road, turn into the city of Bidiyah, which is the best starting point for the desert. To the south of the city is a small castle Al Mintarib. Unlike other Omani castles, however, it is not impressive

If you have a moment, you can see the castle, but there is not much to see here

It is only a short distance from the castle to the beginning of the desert. Follow the asphalt road to the south, which will take you to an oasis surrounded on both sides by high dunes
