An interesting ride to the Bolivian Sea
The journey from La Paz to Copacabana is almost 150 kilometers, so expect less than four hours to drive. The most interesting part is a ferry ride over the 800-meter-wide Tiquina Strait on Lake Titicaca. Along the way, you can also see the massive massif of Huayna Potosí
View of Huayna Potosí
If you buy a ticket from La Paz to Copacabana from the travel guide, count on losing some time by touring hotels and gathering other participants. Driving is faster from the main bus terminal. After unpacking, a ride from La Paz awaits you on the Altipláno plateau at an altitude of about 4,000 meters above sea level. In nice weather you can enjoy the view of the beautiful mountain Huayna Potosí (6,088 m above sea level) and the surrounding potato fields
Views of the Wiñaymarka lagoon
Finally, the road approaches the lake. So far, it is only the southern part of the lake, the so-called Wiñaymarka lagoon
Tiquina Strait
You come to the most interesting place of the whole trip to Copacabana – to the Tiquina Strait. Here you have to overcome this 850 wide place, which divides the lake into two slightly different parts. Buses sail on their own ferry, passengers on another ship.
In the Tiquin Strait
There is quite a bit of life in the strait, although most of Peru-Bolivia's long-distance transport runs on another road, through Desaguadero, to avoid the canal.
Sailing across the strait
Even the cruise across the strait itself is quite nice with a view of the rock rising from the sea
Life around the lake
The bus ascends from the port to the ridge and the road is quite scenic
View of the island of Isla Iskaya
From the road you can see a small island isla Iskaya with one village, but already belonging to Peru.
View of Copacabana
The road gradually turns into the desolate interior of the peninsula and ascends to (4,270 m above sea level). Finally, a great view of Copacaban opens up with the adjacent lookout hills. The destination is in front of you
