Typical trip to Jordan covering all the interesting places leads through the country from north to south or vice versa. You'll see amazing desert of Wadi Rum, the world-famous rock town Petra, swim in both the Red and the Dead Sea. You can see a Crusader castle and Roman monuments. By that you can enjoy a variety of experiences in just one week.

Day 1

Swimming in Aqaba and Tala bay

For someone beginning, for others end of the trip around Jordan. Anyway, it is a place where you can relax, swim or go snorkelling.

2.
Trip to Aqaba

To the Red Sea

Rating:
| Altitude: 20 m / 66 ft

For most travelers is Aqaba the beginning or end of their travel around Jordan. More than for foreign tourists it is a magnet for holidaymakers from Amman, who spend here their weekends at the seaside. You can see the remains of the fort, nice mosque and seaside promenade. Swimming is better a few kilometers in the south in the Bay of Tala. If you like hiking, set out into the desert mountains just outside of town for panoramic views of both Aqaba and Israeli Eilat.   continue reading

Day 2 to 4

Wadi Rum and Petra

Wadi Rum desert is for most travelers as amazing as interesting rock town Petra. Although two days will be sufficient to see the basic of both places, it is worth to plan at least three or four days. Also the way between Aqaba, Wadi Rum and Petra is very nice – except for the desert sceneries you will see into the deep canyons leading to Wadi Araba and the lives of poor shepherds on the upland plains, through which Kings Road leads.

4.
Trip to the desert of Wadi Rum

Dolomiti in orange desert

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 050 m / 3 445 ft

Amazing orange desert Wadi Rum is somewhat unjustly in the shadow of Jordan's largest tourist magnet – rock town Petra. For travelers with a romantic soul and admirers of fabulous rock formations, bridges and massive dolomitic peaks, however, it is even more attractive place than crowded Petra. Some people come here only for a few hours, but if you want to enjoy this place sufficiently, you need at least an additional day and night, but much better are two days.   continue reading

5.
Drive Akaba - Wadi Rum - Petra

Journey through southern Jordan

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 650 m / 5 413 ft

This good-quality road is known to everyone who has been travelling in southern Jordan. It connects three important places – Aqaba (metropolis of the south and the only bathing place in the country), small detour to Wadi Rum (one of the most beautiful deserts in the world with mesas) and Petra (Jordan's greatest magnet for tourists). In total it is 130 km + 60 km if you go to Wadi Rum. Along the way you will have views of the desert arid mountains, great canyon and nomad’s tents on the upland plateau. Most tourists undertake this journey within the trip from Egypt and Israel, but it is much more cheaper, especially if you are traveling in Jordan independently, in local bus /line Wadi Rum – Petra runs every morning/. It is possible to bargain a taxi for a good price for the stretch Aqaba – Wadi Rum, if you miss a bus. continue reading

6.
Rock town Petra

Amazing rock tombs

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 000 m / 3 281 ft

The whole impressive rock town of Petra is carved into the hillsides and canyons of the mountains Jabal al-Khubtha and Jabal Madhbah. It is really large, and so if you want to go through the whole complex, expect at least one really long day, or rather two. Moreover, if you leave the base paths, it is sometimes even mountain hiking with relatively high elevation. The nicest part of the day in Petra is before sunset, when the town is practically just for you and everything is beautifully lit by the sun.   continue reading

Day 5 to 6

Along the Dead Sea to Amman

From Petra follows the typical circuit to the Dead Sea, where you can experience interesting and curative bathing. The next day continue to Amman (one day will be sufficient to see it).

8.
Along the Dead Sea

Trip to the deepest depressions of the w

Rating:
| Altitude: -415 m / -1 362 ft

You can get from the rock town Petra to Amman quickly along the Desert Highway. But more interesting, however, is the route through the town Karak with the castle of the same name, and then descend into the depths of Wadi Araba and on along the Dead Sea. You can experience here renowned newspaper reading in the sea. continue reading

9.
Amman

Capital of Jordan

Rating:
| Altitude: 830 m / 2 723 ft

If you arrive to Jordan by air, your first and last stop will probably be in Amman. It does not offer much except for the historic center with Romanesque monuments and views from the Citadel hill, so one day will be sufficient to see it. But in spite of that, it is still worth seeing. continue reading

Day 7

Roman town Jerash (Gerasa)

End the week with the trip to Jerash (Gerasa) for the amazing Roman monuments. From there, you can move on to Israel or return to Amman.

11.
Visit of Jerash (Gerasa)

Ancient town destroyed by earthquake

Rating:
| Altitude: 600 m / 1 969 ft

Jerash (Gerasa) founded by Alexander the Macedonian had long been one of the most important towns in the Middle East. Unfortunately, like most towns in this area, the vast majority was destroyed by strong earthquake in 749. It was then forgotten and the world rediscovered it in 1806. It is now largely restored again, so you can admire here beautiful Roman buildings. The extensive site is surrounded by modern town with five thousand inhabitants, so there is no problem with bus transport between Amman and Jerash. Together with the rock town of Petra and Wadi Rum belongs to three most interesting places in Jordan, which should not be missed! continue reading
