Walk in Canyon As- Siq

From the entrance gate to the site (1 030 m asl) in the bottom part of the tourist town of Wadi Musa leads wide dusty path surrounded by photogenic rocks and first carved rock tombs. But quick dusty carts carrying here lazy tourists are relatively unpleasant and further in the gorge even a little dangerous.

There is probably not a place in the surrounding rocks without a carved tomb.

The most important monument on the way to the gorge is beautiful tomb with obelisks. The view of it is definitely more interesting on the way back in the early evening, when it is colored to golden brown thanks to sunset.

Surrounding slopes with rounded rocks look quaint and complete the atmosphere of the place.

If you can, stay in the Petra area until sunset. There will be significantly fewer people (after all, the organized tours must travel a long way back for example to Egypt and Israel) and also rocks get the right color.

After almost a kilometer walk slightly downhill you get to the beginning of the gorge. Wind breezes here quite often and dust raises /due to temperature changes before and in the gorge/.

Walk in gorge Siq is an experience in itself – steep walls, in several places only a few meters apart. A concrete floor spoils the romance a little, but it is quite understandable in those crowds of tourists. It is surprisingly better to walk here around noon when is the interior of the gorge well-lit, the rest of the day it is cloaked in shadow.

In some places looks the gorge really amazing and it is worth to have a break here and enjoy.

At the end of the gorge is the most famous view of entire Jordan – Treasury – the most beautiful tomb in rock town famous in good weather for its pink color. Until the afternoon there is hustle and bustle,   but later starts pleasant silence. Square in front of Treasury serves as crossroads to all directions.
