Amazing rock tombs
The whole impressive rock town of Petra is carved into the hillsides and canyons of the mountains Jabal al-Khubtha and Jabal Madhbah. It is really large, and so if you want to go through the whole complex, expect at least one really long day, or rather two. Moreover, if you leave the base paths, it is sometimes even mountain hiking with relatively high elevation. The nicest part of the day in Petra is before sunset, when the town is practically just for you and everything is beautifully lit by the sun.
Basic tour around the rock town
All visitors must pass through As-Siq gorge that leads from Wadi Musa directly into the center of the rock town and ends directly opposite the most famous building here – Treasury. It is quite a bustle and hustle in the gorge as there are not only tourists, but also horse-drawn carriages, so caution is needed. From Treasury follows the basic circuit along the Alley of facades to royal tombs and Roman sites. Most organized expeditions turn here and go back.

The path to the rock town Petra
Most tourists know Petra only by the most famous view of Treasury – beautiful temple carved out in the rock wall. But the area is so vast that you cannot manage to walk through all corners of this rock town even in the whole day. Already the beginning of the path through the gorge As- Siq is worth it and everywhere else it would be an attraction in itself. continue reading
Visit Royal Tombs in Petra
Monumental necropolis
After going through the interesting As-Siq gorge and admire the most famous view to Treasury, your steps will probably take you to the outer part of the gorge. It is called Street of Facades (there are more than 40 tombs). You will see then not only the old Theater, but also the monumental ancient Royal Tombs. The path then continues around the Roman monuments to the Museum. continue reading
Remote and more difficult circuits

Ascent to the Monastery (Ad-Deir)
The outlook up to the Dead Sea
The most popular hike in the rock town of Petra is almost hourly ascent to the Monastery (Ad- Deir), which is only slightly less impressive than the main attraction of the entire town – Al-Khazneh (Treasury). In addition, only a few hundred meters away are two beautiful outlooks next to each other overlooking Wadi Araba, Jebel Haroun and the entire town. continue reading
