Krušná hora (609 m above sea level) is a significant hill of the Křivoklát region. Iron ore has been mined here since Celtic times, thanks to which it got its name. Now there is a forest park and a nature trail, and at the very top we can enjoy the view from the Máminka lookout tower.

From our starting point, ie the Na vartě car park, we follow the blue tourist route, then we „change“ to the yellow one, which forms a circuit around the whole mountain. We are choosing the direction to the former Gabriela mine. Iron ore mining developed here until the first half of the 20th century. In 1973, mining was terminated due to inefficiency. In addition to the building of the Gabriela mine, the remains of the Krušná hora mine and other remains of mining activities can be seen here. Now the house serves as a holiday cottage.

Well Dobra voda II

We pass a well called Dobrá voda II. It must be added that the local water, with its purity, directly attracts to drink and is really good.

Good water I

The place is directly talking about a well called Dobrá voda I, which we will soon discover, however, the water quality is much worse here. We also pass Lípa pod Krušnou hora, which is listed among the memorable trees of the Czech Republic. The linden tree means the place where the chateau and the pond used to be. Today, only the remains of the dam of the pond and piles of rubble after the demolished castle can be found here.

We're climbing

We moved to the red tourist sign and then we turned to the blue one, which will lead us to the top and the lookout tower. Although the weather does not seem to give us any views yet, the fog and frosty trees also have a unique atmosphere.

Lookout point

We pass a lookout point, which is located by the fence. Although there is no view yet, the sun is slowly beginning to appear.

Thought garden

We continue towards the lookout tower and along the way we notice wooden tables on the trees. We go to them and find more and more. This is the so-called Thought Garden. On each table we find a quote to think about.

Lookout tower Máminka

We climbed to the Máminka lookout tower, which stands on the site of the former wooden triangulation tower, its height is 33 m, and you climb 96 steps to the lookout tower. In good conditions you can see Šumava, Klínovec or Ještěd. At the time of our arrival, however, the chances of any outlook are absolutely zero.

On the lookout

We climb the frozen and extremely swaying stairs to the top of the lookout tower, where the expected view of the fog awaits us. However, the sun is trying to cover the fog, it's time for a snack.

View of the Ore Mountain

The snack was a good move, because within ten minutes the fog will tear at the top of the hill and we will have a view of the ridge of the Ore Mountains.

Brdy

The fog drops into the valley and we can see the highest peaks of Brd.

The fog is coming back

In the end, the sun surprises us with a great shadow of the whole lookout tower lined with a rainbow atmospheric phenomenon. Less than ten minutes pass and the fog returns. We descend from the lookout tower and follow the blue tourist sign back to the car.
