Romantic river canyon near Prague
Just a few tens of kilometers southwest of Prague is the Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area, which is a karst area with a romantic and wild landscape furrowed by a number of gorges and canyons. The dominant feature of the area is the deep Berounka canyon and abandoned limestone quarries with a number of caves interconnected by intricate underground passages.
Views over the Alkazar quarry
A very beautiful road leads from Beroun along the Berounka to Serbia. Just behind Beroun, the Berounka River flows through a picturesque canyon and is surrounded on both sides by high rocks, which are a popular place for climbers. The most beautiful view of the Berounka canyon is directly from the rocks above the Alkazar quarry, which is a famous climbing park with hundreds of paths of various difficulty.

Above the quarry, on a plateau, there is a rich herbaceous floor with rare thermophilic flora. The local forests are also highly valued for their natural composition. Karst relief conditions the occurrence of rare animal species, especially bats, mollusks and many species of butterflies.
