Josef Jungmann's birth house and beautiful surroundings
The village of Hudlice is located about 7 km west of Beroun. In the village there is a beautifully preserved birth house of the important Renaissance linguist Josef Jungmann. In the vicinity of the village there are interesting tourist destinations such as Hudlická skála, Hudlický vrch and Krušná hora with the Gabriela mine.
Monument to Josef Jungmann
The monument and the birth house are located on the north side of the village square next to the church. The land of the complex is bordered by a wooden fence with an entrance gate. The core of the area is a preserved timbered house from the early 18th century. It is interesting that the Josef Jungmann Memorial was established here as early as 1896. To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, a neo-Gothic cast-iron monument with a bust of Josef Jungmann was placed in the garden in front of the house.
Birth house of Josef Jungmann
It is a typical old Czech timbered cottage from 1718. Inside there is a period facility and an exhibition presenting the life and work of the writer and translator Josef Jungmann (July 16, 1773 Hudlice – November 14, 1847 Prague). Josef Jungmann was born here as the sixth child out of ten in a shoemaker's family. He became an important Renaissance linguist, whose five-part Czech-German Dictionary is one of the cornerstones for the establishment of standard Czech.
