The second deepest lake in the USA
To the north of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, on the border of California and Nevada, not far from Carson City and Reno, lies the large freshwater Lake Tahoe. It is one of the largest alpine lakes in North America, the twelfth largest lake in the United States, and with a depth of 501 meters, the second deepest lake in the United States and the sixteenth deepest lake in the world. Tahoe is of glacial-tectonic origin and lies at an altitude of 1,897 m above sea level. Not far from the lake is the famous ridge, the Pacific Crest Trail.
