San Francisco's Chinatown is the oldest and largest Chinatown in North America. Located in the center of the city, it is home to more than 80,000 Chinese. According to some sources, it is the largest Chinese community outside of Asia.

Chinese district

Centered around Grant Avenue and Stockton Street, Chinatown is a vibrant and vibrant neighborhood rich in history and culture. The district was founded in 1848 when many Chinese immigrants came to the city in search of fortune during the gold rush. It is home to many shops, restaurants, temples and museums. The district is also known for its traditional Chinese festivities such as Chinese New Year and the Dragon Festival.

Grant Ave

Worth a stroll is the kitschy Grant Avenue, where most of the tourist businesses are located. The street is decorated with red lanterns and Chinese-style lamps. Here you can buy souvenirs and antiques. You will find traditional shops and restaurants where you can eat cheaply.

Dragon Gate

The Dragon Gate is a south-facing gate at the intersection of Bush Street and Grant Avenue that marks the southern entrance to Chinatown. It was built in 1970 based on the design of Chinese-American architect Clayton Lee. The 24-meter-high gate is built in traditional Chinese style and consists of gray concrete columns, a green shingle pagoda and three dragon statues.
