Thanks to lovers of tourism, a number of beautiful and interesting lookout towers have been created in our territory since the end of the 19th century. To date, several hundred of them have been built in the Czech lands to make the view of the picturesque land more pleasant.
Smrk lookout tower
Lookout tower on the highest mountain in the Czech Jizera
The Smrk lookout tower is 23 meters high and is relatively new. The original wooden building burned down here. Access to it is free and the view of the Jizera Mountains is beautiful. The Doubravka lookout tower was opened in 2018 and can be found in Prague 14, about a 10-minute walk from U Čeňku Park. The author of the original design is the architect Martin Rajniš, who also turned the lookout tower into a work of art made of acacia wood and three ovals supporting a narrow spiral staircase leading to a height of 20 meters. About 5 kilometers northeast of the center of Jablonec nad Nisou is a stone lookout tower with an amazing circular view of the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. About 5.5 km northeast of Jablonec nad Nisou and about 10 km east of Liberec, on the Slovanka hill, at an altitude of 820 m, is our oldest iron lookout tower. It is freely accessible and always open. If you climb the 56 steps to the viewing platform at a height of 14 meters above the ground, you will have a beautiful view of the Jizera Mountains, Jablonec nad Nisou, Liberec, the Giant Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise. continue reading
