Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

Peru is one of the most popular countries in South America. At the same time, it is one of the simpler countries for travelers, even though you do not speak English everywhere. All the main tourist attractions are connected by luxury long-distance bus lines and overall the country is relatively dependent on tourism. Especially in Cuzco and Machu Picchu, you will know what is called the mass tourism industry.

Administrative division

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

Peru is divided into 25 relatively independent regions + Lima. Each of these regions has its own president. Regions are further divided into provinces and individual districts.

Landscape types

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:
  • ** Andy: ** The And ridge runs from north to south across the country in several parallel ridges. The most interesting for tourists are the ice-covered Cordillera Blanca „White Mountains“ (with peaks Huascaran, Alpamayo, Pisco, etc.), said to be the most beautiful Peruvian mountains Cordillera Huayhuash (Yerupaja), Cordillera Vilcabamba (Nevado Salcantay, Macu Picchu and expensive and overcrowded In) and Cordillera Vilcanota (Nevado Ausangate). – ** Volcanoes: ** The area around Arequipa is also interesting with a number of interesting volcanoes (eg Mismi, Misti, Ampato, Chachani, Coropuna and others). There are also very deep canyons in this area between the volcanoes, such as Colca or Cotahuasi – ** Amazon (selva): ** although it does not seem to occupy almost half of the Amazon rainforest in such a mountainous country. This area is less accessible because there are practically no roads leading here. The center of the Amazon is the city of Iquitos. – ** Pacific Coast: ** Due to the Atacama Desert and the cold Humboldt Stream (sometimes called the Peruvian Current), the coastal area is shrouded in fog for most of the year and is very unfriendly. The capital Lima also belongs to this area. The most interesting places here are Nazca and Paracas National Park. – ** Titicaca: ** The huge Lake Titicaca on the Altiplán lies among other interesting areas of the state.

Traveler Itineraries

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

A typical excursion trip to Peru without demanding hiking will almost always take you to Machu Picchu, the interesting cultures of Lake Titicaca, the volcanoes and canyons around Arequipa or the mysterious figures at Nazca. On one trip you can experience the forest, deserts, views of the high mountains and interesting sights.

Classic Itineraries

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

The typical journey to Peru begins with a move from Lima to colonial Cuzco and on through the Sacred Inca Valley to Machu Picchu, probably the most famous monument on the continent. From here you will drive to Lake Titicaca with the Uros floating reed islands and the islands of Taquile and Amantani. From here over the mountains to Arequipa and to Colca Canyon. Then it sets off on the famous Nazca figures and descends to the Pacific Ocean and back to Lima. (14 days) The most common extension of a classic trip is a week spent in the north of Peru around Huaráz, the center of the famous White Mountains – Cordillera Blanca. From here, trips are made to the lagoons, the Pastoruri Glacier or the ruins of Chavín.

Off Beaten Itineraries

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

A trip to the Peruvian Amazon around Iquitos (eg Pacaya-Samiria reserve, Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo) or Puerta Maldodanada (eg Tambopata reserve, Manú National Park). Instead of Colca Cañon you will visit the Cotahuasi canyon. Huancavelica and Huancayo. You will also take a trip to the far north of Peru

Combination with neighboring countries

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:
  • Itinerary Peru with Bolivia: Very popular is the circuit connecting the most interesting places in Peru with Bolivian classic tourist circuit (Copacabana on Lake Titicaca, the ruins of Tiwanaku, the impressive La Paz, Potosí mining and the most interesting Salar tour). (From 3 weeks)

Journey around the World

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:
  • ** Long journeys through South America: ** The most classic journey through South America begins through Peru, starting in Bogota, Colombia, and further through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia to Chile, where it ends in Santiago or Buenos Aires, Argentina. Less common is the branch continuing from Bolivia to Brazil. It is often stretched as far as the south of South America to Patagonia ** (length 3–6 months) **

The most beautiful areas

Petr Liška Wrote 27.01.2013:

Due to its geographical location, Peru belongs to a very diverse country. Its territory rises from the beaches of the Pacific to the icy Andes and the vast plateau of the Altiplano of volcanic origin. Further east, the terrain falls sharply to the endless Amazon Basin.
