Visit of Chavin de Huantar
Forgotten pre-Inca pyramid
Most tourists come to Cordillera Blanca to see breathtaking mountain sceneries and experience wonderful treks. However, there is another pretty interesting place on the "other“ side of the mountains, which is worth visiting and seeing – the center of ancient civilization in Chavin with a large half-ruined pyramid.
The central pyramid
The central pyramid forms the main part of the archaeological complex, see the introductory slide of photoreport or this one. But even during its heyday it didn´t have its typical top – buildings of Chavin culture had flat tops.
The main square
Directly in front of the main pyramid there is a large square – the center of the place.
Place of sacrifice
Another small square was probably used for ritual ceremonies.
Ruins and mountains
Small temples are already quite in ruins, but it is at least clearly visible in what a beautiful landscape is the whole place located.
Lama as a tourist
Not only tourists admire the archaeological site :-)
Portal
The original site is covered by pretty ancient engravings, which belong among the biggest attractions of the whole pavilion.
Underground pyramids
Underground beneath the main pyramid is unexpectedly interwoven by corridors and seeing it is quite worth it.
