A half-timbered house from the 16th century

One of the oldest surviving houses in Vrchlabí dates from the first half of the 16th century. The house was built as a dwelling for craftsmen who, as an additional source of livelihood, kept small livestock in vaulted spaces with access to the river.
Six and not seven turning points
Nowadays, there are only six sheds on the house. The seventh was demolished during the reconstruction of the north side of the house in 1945.

Exceptional attic
The house is unusual because of the attic of the house, which was used as living space. Three families also lived in the house. Two on the ground floor and one in the attic.

A stylish cafe
In the southern part of the ground floor there is a spacious hall where a pleasant cafe is operated. Due to its attractive environment and excellent assortment, it is a popular place.

Museum
For lovers of everyday history, there is a small museum on the first floor with period objects of daily use and an interestingly painted room.

Northern splendour
In the attic, on the north side, there is a room in which an entire family lived.

Southern saint
The south attic room has unusually painted walls. It is possible that an Italian master painter lived here, who was invited to paint the rooms of the local castle.
