Ushuaia is a well-known starting point for expensive trips to Antarctica. You can also start or end a long journey across South America from here. The city itself does not offer many monuments, rather there are interesting views of the Beagle Channel or the surrounding mountains. The weather is really changeable here and it is no exception that the sun shines, snows and rains in five minutes.

The first view of Ushuaia

If you arrive in Ushuaia by plane from Buenos Aires, you have a nice panoramic view from the airport. The airport is about 3 km away from the center, so you can get there in peace on a busy road and on foot. The glaciated peaks above the town look alpine but are only slightly above 1,100 meters above sea level.

Downtown Ushuaia

Of course, the small square in the city center, just a short walk from the port, cannot lack the Argentine flag.

Antarctic Office

In Ushuaia, many travelers want to fulfill their dream and go on a boat trip to Antarctica. Expect high prices of around $ 5,000 for a multi-day trip.

Signpost

Of course, there are several signposts missing. Buenos Aires, for example, is over 3,000 kilometers away. Argentina is simply a big country.

Interesting houses

In Ushuaia you will find quite interesting houses. Many of them are wooden and the colors are not spared much.

Weather in Ushuaia

If it is said that the weather in Patagonia is variable, then this is doubly true of the Land of Fire. It's snowing over the mountains, it's raining in Ushuaia and the sun is shining :-)

The port of Ushuaia

The local port is such an omnivore – huge cruise ships, small boats offering a ride along the Beagle Channel or cargo container ships.

City view

From the surrounding hills there is a beautiful view of both the city and the Beagle Channel

Where now?

  • For your own tour of the city, you only need one day with a walking trip to the rest of the Martial Glacier. – Around the city there are several nice lagoons where you can also go hiking (lagoon Margot, or the beautiful lagoon de los Tempanos or lagoon Encantada). – The most classic trip is a visit to the Tierra del Fuego National Park with a wide range of hiking opportunities.
