Rurrenabaque is in itself a small, insignificant town. Due to the fact that it lies on the river Beni in the Amazon lowlands and it is a starting point to the Madidi National Park and to the pampas full of animals, there is a lively bustle of tourists. If you come here on the path of death, it will be one of your unforgettable Bolivian experiences

Rurre

Rurre is a town that is specifically aimed at tourists who go around the individual travel agencies and arrange a trip to the pampas and the jungle. You feel here in a completely different country – low altitude, heat, humidity and people look different here. There is a much more relaxed atmosphere than on the plateau.

Hills around Beni

Rurre has a picturesque location. It lies exactly at the interface of the two worlds. To the north is the vast Amazon lowlands, to the south rise the green hills.

Bananas in Rurre

In addition to making tourists after trips here, the locals grow bananas in large numbers, mostly those for cooking.

Road to mirador

Rurre is more of a starting point for excursions than that there is a lot to do here. But be sure to visit the prospect. Ask the locals for „Mirador el Calvario“ otherwise you will hardly hit the road yourself.

Mirador in Rurre

The climb to the mirador is really worth it. Although you will probably be really pouring in the local humidity, the views of the local hills are great. Expect almost 200 meters of ascent.

Early evening in the harbor

Beni is a really mighty river, it is also one of the major tributaries of the Amazon. These motor canoes set out for Madidi National Park.
