ElChoro trek 5: Comparing with the previous day, the third and final day of El Choro trek is absolutely relaxing. You can expect only the descent to Chairo, or if you do not want to pay exorbitant transportation to Pacallo, then to the main road number 3. The most beautiful is the beginning of the day – sunrise in the camp Sandillani, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the lighted mountain ridges.

Panorama of El Choro trek

At sunrise you can nicely see the panorama of Cordillera Real towering over the green slopes of Yungas. From Sandillani you can see a big part of El Choro trek leading through countless number of side valleys. It is one of the best views during this entire walk.

Sunrise at the end of the valley

The colors of the mountains at the end of the valley with dominant massive peak of Tiquimani change nicely during the sunrise.

View of the rock tower

Also the view of the dominant rock tower peeping high above the valley is nice.

Cerro Tiquimani

Around Cerro Tiquimani (5 460 m asl) and lagoon Wara Warani leads an alternative and virtually not walked branch of El Choro trek starting in Zongo Pass below Huyana Potosí.

Descent to Chairo

Descent to Chairo is in general very comfortable. The path traverses the mountain slope and constantly moves downward. Only after a few minutes’ walk from Sandillani opens this nice view into the depths of the canyon.

View back to the ridges of Yungas

You will do the entire traverse in about an hour and in front of you is just the final descent to Chairo. When looking back, you can enjoy a wide range of other green ridges.

Chairo (1 280 m asl)

After two hours of brisker walk from Sandillani is already below you a small hamlet of Chairo. It is more than three and a half kilometers below the pass Chucura where the trek started. There is also a small shop, so you can have a small breakfast.

From there, the small road leads up to the main road – Ruta 3. But local drivers are complying with cartel and have disproportionately high prices, so if you do not want to support such unfair business, then about 5 km away is the village Pacallo with public transport, or after 7,5 km you will reach the main road, from where you can hitchhike to Coroico or La Paz.

The path to highway 3

The path from Chairo to the road number 3 is only a dusty narrow road constantly slightly declining and rising only a few meters above the river. Around the path are built manors of rich Bolivians. The walk is tiring due to very hot weather and tiredness from the previous days.
