Beckov Castle is a reconstructed castle ruined on a steep, 60 meter high rock – ridges – above the town of Beckov. The castle is a National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic. The ruins of the upper and lower castles are the remains of palaces, farm and defensive buildings and fortifications. In the lower courtyard there is an open large cannon bastion, the upper courtyard is surrounded by the remains of palace structures and the entrance facade of the former chapel.

The castle, which was the property of the Hungarian kings, originally had a defensive function. Its excellent location contributed to the fact that it was not conquered by the Tatars, at the time of their invasion of Hungary in 1241.

Colorful castle rock

The most important period in terms of castle development began in 1388, when the Hungarian King Sigismund of Luxembourg donated the castle to the nobleman of Polish origin Stibor of Stiborice for his faithful services. Stibor, who was one of the most influential royal advisers and owned (managed) about 20 castles in Slovakia, rebuilt Beckov into a magnificent family residence in the Gothic style. New representative castle buildings were built, including a chapel with rich architectural and painted decoration.

In 2007, an interest association of legal entities Hrad Beckov was established (Municipality of Beckov and companies of the NOREA group). Which initiated the elaboration and implementation of the restoration of the castle in the years 2010 – 2012. In 2009, we also managed to obtain funds from the state budget of the Slovak Republic to finance the project of gradual reconstruction of the castle chapel. In the course of 2015, work was carried out, the result of which is the opening in 2016 of a significant part of the upper castle – the eastern wing of the northern wing of the North Palace complex, which offers visitors a beautiful view of the surrounding protected natural area with a panorama of the Inovec Mountains.
