An extraordinary mountain village, a place of spiritual renewal
About 8 km northeast of Rokytnice in the Orlické hory, right on the border with Poland, there is an unusual mountain settlement. The small village of Neratov, surrounded by the beautiful nature of the Eagle Mountains, gradually became an important place of pilgrimage and a place of help for disabled people. The dominant feature of the settlement is the newly restored Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a unique building with a glass roof that attracts not only pilgrims and believers, but also tourists.
A moving history
The village had over 500 permanent residents before the Second World War. Neratov used to be an important Marian pilgrimage site. The original church was destroyed during World War II and was not rebuilt after the war. After the post-war displacement of the German population, the village almost disappeared. In 1989, two permanent residents lived here.
In 1992, priest Josef Suchár founded the non-profit organization „Sdružení Neratov“, whose goal was to restore the church and the village. Today, Neratov is a lively center of spiritual life, where regular religious services, concerts of spiritual music, meditation retreats and other events take place.
Association Neratov
The driving force behind the development of the settlement is the „Association of Neratov“, which not only develops its own village and takes care of the Marian pilgrimage church with a glass roof, but also provides work for dozens of people with disabilities. This non-profit organization was founded in 1992 and intensively helps people with disabilities and, together with them, participates in the restoration of the pilgrimage site and the return of life to the once displaced village. The association organizes a number of events that encourage people to meet and create a friendly atmosphere.
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
The dominant feature of the settlement and its spiritual center is the newly restored Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The Baroque church of the first third of the 18th century was significantly damaged at the end of II. St. war and has been gradually reconstructed since 1990. The building is 48 m long and 19 m wide and is famous for its new glass roof. The unconventional architecture and peaceful atmosphere offer a unique experience. The glass roof allows you to observe the sky and brings enough daylight into the church.
The church is never closed, it can be visited at any time.
Spiritual renewal
Neratov is a secluded place that is often sought after. Visitors here are looking for a spiritual experience or a quiet place to rest or inspiration for their lives. Neratov offers an opportunity to stop, reflect and gain new strength.
Brewery
As part of social entrepreneurship, a local brewery has been operating in Neratov since November 2017. Here, too, people with disabilities found employment. The Neratov Brewery brews artisanal unfiltered and unpasteurized beer „Prorok“.
Horticulture
In the center of the settlement, the „Sdružení Neratov“ operates, among other things, a gardening shop. They are cared for by people with mental and physical disabilities. They feel so needed and important. Everything is grown without chemicals, pesticides and chemical spraying. The harvest goes to the Neratov pub and the local Veselá Albertýna fresh juice bar. Part of the production is also for sale to visitors.
Shop and pub
There is a local shop and pub in the center of the village by the main road. An interesting feature is that the store is open non-stop, when you need to use the application from ČSOB „Do kapsy“ to enter. During normal times, operation is maintained with the assistance of a salesperson. People without health or other restrictions, as well as people with physical or mental disabilities, work in the Inn. The pub cooks Czech classics and taps local beer.
Border bridge
At the end of 2019, the newly restored Jánský most over Divoka Orlica was opened under the brewery. A wooden footbridge 22 meters long and 2.5 meters wide is used for pedestrians and cyclists. A stone bridge once stood on this site from the days when neighboring Kladsko was part of the Czech lands.
