In earlier times, countless amazing creatures roamed our planet, which can rarely be seen today where or even not at all, because hunting and other adverse human activities caused their extinction. If you want to go back in time and get a closer idea of what our landscape could have looked like in the past, go on a trip to the Milovice nature reserve. Here you can see not only many rare animals, but also a representative of a long-extinct creature.

Wild horse

Today, there are really few places where you can see a wild horse. One such is Exmoor National Park in England. There are currently only 1,500 representatives of the so-called Exmoor pony in the wild. This is fewer individuals than in the giant panda. Fortunately, this species is very successful in the Milovice Reserve, so you can come and see it and observe it in its natural environment.

As you may have read the introduction, you may have wondered how it is possible to see a living representative of an extinct creature. It really is. It may sound like Jurassic Park, but a few years ago the Dutch Taurus Foundation managed to bring back to life an animal that was exterminated by man in 1627. Among other things, today, part of their population lives freely in Milovice.

Other inhabitants of Milovice

In the reserve you can observe not only large herbivores, but also many smaller and often rare creatures. Above all, a large number of representatives of birds. These include, for example, the goldfinch, the buzzard, the gray squirrel, and in rare cases, for example, the forest bee-eater can be seen.

Importance of reservation

The nature reserve in Milovice is a unique laboratory of modern conservation strategies and its goal is to return the above-mentioned creatures to the landscape and thus restore and maintain functional ecosystems that will not only benefit as many representatives of fauna and flora, but also interesting people. People from the company Česká krajina are behind this idea and effort.
