You will do right thing, if you decide to continue on and higher from small mountain pass between the villages of Ira and Nava higher to the massif of Ebrat. But be aware that this stage is already more difficult and at one point you'll have to climb down with the help of your hands. But the effort made will be rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Spring

From the pass between the villages of Ira and Nava leads a nice path to the spring of water surrounded by completely different vegetation than elsewhere. Also here you can replenish water if needed.

The ascent to the main ridge

The trodden path ends at the spring, but the terrain is then also easily accessible along the „goats“ paths. Continue for about 500 meters more or less in traverse before you get into a shallow trough, through which you can comfortably ascend up to the main ridge.

The outlook below the ridge

Although it doesn´t seem at first glance, the ascent through the trough is quite long. After three hundred vertical meters you get to the grassy place suitable for a break and a short rest. The pass itself is still another hundred altitude meters above you. The view of Damavand and surrounding oasis opens again during this final ascent to the ridge.

In the pass

After about an hour and a half of the ascent from the water spring you will finally be in the pass at about (3 080 m asl) and new views into the valley surrounded by four thousand high ridge of Doberar open.

View of the village Lasem

From the pass begins the best part of this hike – walk along the ridge. In a moment will be nicely visible the village Lasem (2,585 m asl) huddled below the ridge of Doberar. The valley above it looks from the top nice green and picturesque and is an ideal destination for another possible walk.

Amazing panorama of eastern Elborz

The ridge itself is relatively flat and it is pleasant to walk on it. Most of the hillocks on it have between 3 150 and 3 200 meters above sea level. From the tops is a stunning view of virtually entire eastern part of mountain Elborz. You can see from here both oases at the same time – farther and smaller Ira, where you have started a few hours ago and bigger Nava. Visible is also a low pass between them, where leads the shorter variant of this hike.

Oasis Nava

The whole journey you will be amazed by amazing view of the valley with Nava oasis. On the other hand, you'll know that there is still a long way before you and the sun shines more and more.

The path along the ridge of Ebrat

The way along the ridge is pleasant, but relatively long. You can expect more than 3.5 kilometers before you get to the pass below the mountain of Ebrat itself.

The outlook to the valley

The slopes falling to the south side of the ridge are much more passable than in the north side, but even so, it would also be quite difficult to run down these 600 altitude meters.

Pass below Ebrat

The only technical problem on this trip is to climb down into the big pass below Ebrat, where the flat ridge becomes steeper and you have to carefully climb down almost 100 meters in altitude between the rocks.

From this pass you will already descend down through the valley to the village of Nava. If you still have enough energy, you can alternatively walk to the very top of Ebrat. But count with additional 700 vertical meters and about 3 hours. And the views are not much different.

Herders

The descent from the pass into the valley is the least pleasant part of the hike. The slope is very steep and slippery. If it is wet, it will be almost life-threatening. In addition, there is no proper pathway. This section takes almost an hour before you get to the shepherds residing already „at the bottom“ of the valley. Here is also the second spring of pure water. The only attraction during the descent is fossils site.

The descent through the valley to the vi

There seems to be more options for descent into the valleys at the shepherds place. The ideal seems the one leading on the contour around irrigation. Looking back you can enjoy the end of the valley with a huge rock cliff.

The village of Nava

The last part of the descent to the village you will have to improvise and get through the fields. Below the village at the road is a factory where water Damavand is packed. There is also a tap, where you can replenish water.
