Drive Polour - Lake Lar
Amazing outlook of Damavand
On the eastern side of the mountain Elborz is obviously the biggest tourist attraction the country's highest mountain Mount Damavand. Another great natural attraction is basically right underneath – the national park Lar with a dam bearing the same at its center. You might be surprised that there can be found not only jackal and wild boar, but also a wolf, bear and leopard. Entry to the park is 15 kilometers behind the town Polour. From the entrance to the park is one of the most beautiful views of Mount Damavand at all. Through the park leads the panoramic road or you can also trek here.
The path to the lake Lar
Leave the main road in Polour (2 240 m asl) and take the „upper“ road to Rineh (alternative, but more distant starting point to the lake Lar). After 4 kilometers you will find a turnoff to the lake. You will drive through picturesque countryside on the foot of Dámavand.

After another ten kilometers of driving you will arrive to the building of park rangers – at approximately 2 620 meters asl. From here is nicely visible the dam (Lar is not a lake).

At the entrance to the national park you can take a short walk with views of both the lake and Dámavand /for free/. If you have the whole day to explore, so it is worth to pay an entrance fee and drive around the lake with an off-road vehicle and enjoy the beauty of the local countryside. Of course, the best is to walk it here within 2–3-days trek, when you can also walk through the side valleys and peaks.

Moreover, Damavand is perhaps the most beautiful from this northeastern view.

Typical landscape around lake Lar – three thousand high ridges tower everywhere you look.
Hives
Another typical picture is an incredible number of hives scattered all over the eastern Elborz. Local honey is also very famous.

If you are here for a short visit only, you have no choice than to say goodbye to the lake with the last rays of the sun and go back.
