Long descent through the valley Sirimon
Thirteen kilometer long descent through Sirimon valley is interesting only at the beginning, when there are still outlooks of the highest peaks of the massif and the path is surrounded by lobelia. Then awaits you ascent to a small pass, from which you will see that your destination – Old Moses hut is still quite far away and you will have to overcome two other side valleys. In addition, the way leads for a long time through eroded section and quite waterlogged ground, so this stage of the trek is certainly not very favorite.
Below Shipton camp
After an exhausting ascent to the summit of Point Lenana and a rest in the camp Shipton it is time to set out further towards Old Moses hut. Start of the descent is very picturesque. Around you are a lot of lobelia and on the horizon rise the massive walls of the highest peaks of Mount Kenya.
Descent through the flat valley
The descent path leads for a long time on the bottom of the broad flat valley, but still at a height of more than four thousand meters above sea level.
High mountain savannah
Further descent through high mountain savannah is quite tedious. Moreover, thanks to the popularity of the Sirimon route compared to Chogoria is the path very eroded because of the crowds of tourists and you need to be careful not to break your leg. In addition, there is not much to look at, if we not consider the tops of peaks towering in the distance over the savannah.
View from the hut Old Moses
Old Moses hut (3 384 m asl) is located at the end of jeep path (only for supply). It's quite a large lodge, but compared to other accommodation facilities on the trek it does not offer very interesting walks around. But anyway, you may not even want to walk around after such a long trek and you may prefer having rest.
