Ascent to upper path
One of the crucial decisions on the trek around Annapurnas waits for you in Pisang. You need to decide whether you will go on the faster and shorter lower path, or on so-called „higher“ via Upper Pisang, Ghyaru and Ngawal with beautiful views. As you started the trek mainly with the aim to see something, so it is definitely worth going through the higher path, from where it is also possible to take a few side acclimatization trips.
Annapurna II from Upper Pisang
The Pisang itself is divided into two parts – Lower (3207 m asl) lying directly by the river with a new range of lodges and Upper (3320 m asl ), which is basically the original old settlement with lower number of accommodation possibilities. Slightly above there is the local gompa, where a few tourists meet at the sunrise to admire the views of Annapurna II., although from this perspective the pointed peak in front of it seems bigger ( 7744 m asl). But it's a little disappointing for photographers, since the sun gives light only to a small part of the wall at sunrise.
Mountains on the horizon
Six thousand high mountains in the distance on the horizon are at much better light during the rising sun. Directly neighboring Lamjung Himal is unfortunately not visible from this angle.
Hill above Pisang
Directly above Pisang is towering a hill with a very flat top. Only a few people know that there are quite large boxes at its peak.
Annapurna II in the way to Ghyaru
The path from Upper Pisang then continues for about 3 km quite along the contour-line at the height of 3,300 meters above sea level up to the bridge over the river from the next valley. Along the way there are views of Annapurna II. Now it is quite visible that the main peak is not as pointy as it seemed in Pisang.
The first view of Annapurna III
Previous path along the contour-line was a good warm-up for proper ascent to Ghyaru that is before you : 23 endless twists and 400 vertical meters. During the ascent slowly begin to open up views of the valley continuation and massive wall of Annapurna III.
Annapurna II a IV
Slowly begins to peep out also Annapurna IV, but from this side from Manang it looks like a meaningless peak.
Village Ghyaru
After about two hours walking from Pisang you finally ascend to Ghyaru. Here, most people usually have only tea and rush further to get to Manang the same day, But it is much better to leave a backpack in custody and ascend to chorten above the village, from where are the views much better than from the village.
Glacial wall of Annapurna IV.
Annapurna IV ( 7,525 m asl) looks from a distance more like an impassable wall of ice than an interesting peak. But if you have time to observe it, you will definitely see at least a small avalanche.
View of Marsyangdi valley
From Ghyaru you can clearly see the continuation of the path in the direction of Ngawal and huge Annapurna III. guarding the valley.
