Roads from all over the world converge to the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, Sněžka (1,603 m above sea level). However, one of the most beautiful leads from Luční bouda, where you can get from Špindlerův Mlýn either through the picturesque valley of the White Elbe, on the way through Kozí hřbety or Dlouhý dol through the cottage Výrovka and Modré sedlo. From Luční bouda, lying on a plateau, it is only 3.5 km to the top of Sněžka with an elevation gain of 330 meters. The path leads through the picturesque region of the Úpské rašeliniště to Obří sedlo and from there through the real mountain terrain to the top of the mountain. You can go back to Luční bouda either the same way or along the Friendship path already in Poland and turn from it to Rownia pod Sněžkou. (Alternatively, if you no longer want to return to Luční bouda, continue along the Přátelství path to Špindlerův Mlýn and from there on foot or by bus back to Špindlerův Mlýn)

Sněžka from the Úpské peat bog

The advantage of the route to Sněžka from Luční bouda is the practically constant views of the destination of this mountain walk. The peak rises majestically above the surrounding plateau, which is called White Meadow. Here springs both the Upa and the White Elbe (the first significant tributary of the Elbe).

Road through Úpské rašeliniště

The road leads almost along the plain along a wooden „bridge“ over the peat. around it is only sparse vegetation of grasses and low conifers. The path leads along the Ice Age Heritage nature trail, where you can read a lot of interesting information about the Krkonoše past.

Giant saddle and Sněžka

Before the road disappears into the cypress tree for a while, there is a nice view of Sněžka and its surroundings. It is good to see the Giant Saddle and the path to it leading from the Giant Mine (the most classic ascent path to Sněžka from Pec pod Sněžkou). Large building of the Polish house Slaski. You can also see the steep ascent and comfortable ascent, which bypasses this peak from the north

View of the Giant Saddle

After you come to the crossroads at the Silesian House in Obří sedlo, you may be dismayed by the crowds of tourists. From the Polish Karpacz, thanks to the cable car to Kopa (1,377 m above sea level), a procession of hikers literally flows here. At the next crossroads, the beginning of the final climb to the top is waiting for you. The path is secured by chains. With increasing height, the views of the mighty Upská pit improve.

Úpská jáma and Horní Úpský waterfall

The most beautiful view on the ascent to Sněžka is to the large Úpská pit modeled by a glacier. In spring and early summer, you can see the second highest Czech waterfall – Horní Úpský, 120 meters high. Unfortunately, it is not accessible and, moreover, it almost dries out during the summer. You can also see Luční bouda on the onzor, where this walk starts.

Final ascent to Sněžka

During the final ascent to Sněžka, you also feel in the Czech Republic that you are really in the mountains. The ascent can be potentially dangerous only in the winter months when the ascent sidewalk is icy.

The top of Sněžka

After a steep ascent of more than 200 meters high from Obří sedlo, you finally ascend to the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. If you want to enjoy the panorama here in relative peace, you have to be here very early or late or in winter.

Polish part of Sněžka

Unfortunately, the top of the mountain is quite built – apart from the Czech post office and the chapel of St. Vavřince there is also a large Polish restaurant.

View of the Úpská pit

The most beautiful view from the top is to Úpská jáma, which you could watch in the whole time during the ascent.
