A view for the gods
Hoher Kasten is a mountain in Switzerland in the Appenzell Alps. The mountain rises above the river Rhine. From here you can see Liechtenstein, Lake Constance, the interior of Switzerland (Appenzell, Sankt Gallen) and the Austrian Alps.
On foot or by cable car
The Hoher Kasten can be reached by a large cable car. More able tourists can climb there on foot (about 1 hour away). It is the second most famous lookout hill in this area after Säntis.
What we find at the top
An incredible view awaits us at the top. Scenic paths and platforms will offer us views of the entire wider area. Of course we can also have a snack in the restaurant here.
View of Liechtenstein
Below us is the valley of the river Rhine. We are now looking directly at Liechtenstein, which can be seen almost entirely in the palm of your hand from this almost bird's eye view.
Lake Samtisersee
Right next to the hill Hoher Kasten we can look down into the valley with the lake Samtisersee.
A view of Austria
Beyond the Rhine, not only the border with Liechtenstein, but also with Austria passes. The mountains we are looking at are already the Austrian Alps. The river Rhine, which is the border river in these places, is formed by numerous sandy alluvium.
What awaits us on the other side?
On the other hand, before the river Rhine, we look at a slightly undulating landscape, where there is, for example, the town of Appenzell or the famous town of Sankt Gallen. In good weather we can see a large number of paragliders here.
Vrch Kamor
The Kamor peak with its height of 1751 m is connected to the Hoher Kasten hill geologically and by a tangle of roads.
Lake Constance
Behind the top of Kamor you can see the vast Lake Constance. It's far from here, but with the help of binoculars or a large zoom with the camera, we can also watch the local boat traffic :)
