From mountain meadows to an alpine gorge

From the Alp Trider Sattel you can do a whole range of hikes. The most famous is probably the short climb to Piz Munschuns. But if you don't want to go back down to Ravaisch by cable car, you have to choose a nice descent route. If you want to experience at least a little adventure, take the route to Restaurant Salaas, then to the Raveischer Salaas crossroads and then after a while a nice descent through an alpine gorge to Ravaisch awaits you.
Alp Trider Saddle
The starting point of this hike is the Alp Trider Sattel, which is the upper station of the cable car built on the edge of the cliff and the excursion restaurant building next to it. The cycle path leading over the Alp Trida to Laret in the valley also starts here.

Alpine nature trail
From the cable car, walk along the beautifully designed nature trail – which is quite a few showcases with stuffed animals of the local fauna.

View of Salaas restaurant
The beginning of our journey is obvious – along a wide path we head to the Salaas restaurant (building on the horizon), which is the starting point for other ski lifts in winter.

Views of the Samnaun peaks
The views over the mountain meadows are truly magnificent

View into the first gorge
After a while we pass the view into the first gorge. Here the first, shorter path descends to Ravaisch.

Restaurant Salaas
We come to the Salaas restaurant, which is not open during the summer season.

Retrospect
From the Salaas restaurant the path climbs slightly – already on a mountain path – and when we look back we have walked all the way from the cable car building. Piz Munschuns is also beautifully visible.

View from above
Following a path surrounded by beautiful blooming alpine meadows, we come to a height from which we finally see the beginning of our descent along a small stream.

View of the Wildspitze
When descending from the height, beautiful views open up far into the region. You can even see the towering Wildspitze – the highest mountain in the Ötztal Alps – on the horizon.

Path along the stream
Before descending from the height into the valley of the mountain stream, you pass a crossroads – the path from here leads far to Zeblasjoch. However, we are already descending towards Ravaisch.

Before the start of the gorge
The path slowly approaches the beginning of the gorge. In front of us are beautifully eroded rocks.

View from the Ravaisch lookout
Finally we reach a place where the terrain breaks and we have a view into the depths. Ravaisch can already be seen below on the horizon. The distance is only a little over two kilometers, but we still have to descend over 500 meters in altitude.

A view into the depths of the gorge
Now we face the most difficult and in a way the only dangerous section of this entire hike. We have to descend a steep slope all the way down to the mouth of the gorge. The way down is steep, slippery and only in some places secured with ropes.

Part of the route secured with ropes
The dangerous section itself is only about 800 meters long, but you will climb almost three hundred meters in altitude. Anyone who does this hike in the opposite direction will definitely work up a sweat on this southern slope.
Views while descending along the gorge
Anyway, the descent is full of beautiful views of the surrounding jagged rocks.

Relaxing journey
After we reach the stream flowing out of the gorge again, the path becomes easy again. After a while, it becomes a wide dirt road, and we are almost at the border of Ravaisch.

Ravaisch
We are finally at the end of the hike – in the picturesque town of Ravaisch. We only have a few dozen meters left to walk back to the cable car building where our journey began.
