Beaches under a steep cliff
In the southeastern part of the island of Thassos, you will come across two beautiful beaches right next to each other – the larger Livadi and the small Arsanas bay. Despite the fact that these are very beautiful beaches, there is no big rush even in the peak season. The beaches lie under the island's highest cliff just a short distance from the famous Archangelou Michael Monastery. During one trip, you can easily visit both beaches and enjoy the views from the cliffs.
View of Archangelou Michael Monastery
When you drive to the beaches from the south, it is worth stopping at a small parking lot and enjoying the beautiful views. The Archangelou Michael monastery, built 100 meters above sea level, can be seen nicely from here.
View of Livadi and Arsanas beaches
However, the view from the parking lot directly to the beach is not so good, it is a little further down the road. Both Livadi and Arsanas beaches can be seen beautifully
Valley of ancient olive trees
Now you have two options. You either park in a sharp bend (space for approx. 2 cars) and walk down the valley of olive trees, or take the worse road straight to the beach. It is roughly 600 meters and the elevation gain is 75 meters. If you go on foot, you can admire the beautiful olive trees. About halfway down the path to Arsanas Beach splits.
Arrival at Livadi beach
The beach itself is quite long. In the middle there is a small organized section with umbrellas. There is also a small snack (unfortunately with a humming diesel generator).
Livadi beach
The beach has darker sand and there are sections in the water where the pebbles are quite large. So take your time choosing a good place to enter the water.
Eastern part of Livadi beach
The most photogenic part of Livadi beach is its eastern end, where a steep cliff rises. There are generally the fewest people here.

If you want to go and see the nearby Arsanas beach, you have two options: return along the road and walk there by the other path, or turn around a little behind the stand and climb the slope (shortcut). In any case, be sure to walk to the edge of the cliff and enjoy the view of the beach from above.
View straight down
The eastern end of the beach is directly below you. So be careful not only not to fall, but also not to send a rock on someone's head.
Cove with Arsanas beach
From the cliff there is also a nice view of the bay with Arsanas beach, where we are headed.
Descent to Arsanas beach
From the small parking lot, we then have a relatively steep descent to the beach
Arsanas beach
And here we are. It's tiny and quite romantic here. You will probably get the feeling from the beach depending on how many people will be there at the moment.
