The highest settlement in the Czech Republic
The highest situated former settlement in the Czech Republic is located just on the border, 16 km southwest of Vimperk, at an altitude of 1162 m above sea level. After the displacement of the population after World War II, it was destroyed in 1956. Today it is experiencing its fascinating renaissance.
The place is located on the Šumava Pedestrian Highway, offers beautiful views and is a border crossing for pedestrians and cyclists to Germany.

Already at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Bučina was a popular place for people with lung and heart diseases. Thanks to its specific altitude and location in the middle of deep forests, it boasts the status of a climatic spa.
Iron Curtain Memorial
After World War II, the area became part of an impenetrable border zone. Today, the Iron Curtain Memorial stands as a warning memento. In 2008, the original barbed wire fence, guard tower (so-called Špak) and anti-tank barriers were faithfully reconstructed over a few dozen meters.
Monument to the Šumava Forests
Not far from the hotel is the Monument to the Šumava Forests. This unique monument is a symbol of the eternal cycle of nature, but also a reminder of the devastating hurricanes and bark beetle calamities that have changed the face of Šumava over the centuries.
It shows us that even when forests are seemingly destroyed by man or the elements, the Šumava nature has an incredible ability to regenerate. A new, wild and diverse generation of forest is growing from the withered stumps of old trees, literally before our eyes.
