Road to the source of the Vltava
Artic frosts hit and the next day I was in Šumava, where I tasted a rough region where temperatures did not fall below –10 ° C. The Šumava, nicknamed Lungs of Europe, is the largest forest in Central Europe. The morning temperature showed a beautiful –18 ° C and my start was Modrava around Modravský potok to Březník, but in front of it I turned and climbed to Černá hora and from there I descended to the source of the Vltava to Kvilda.

Road to the source of the Vltava
Arctic frosts hit and the next day I was in Šumava, where I tasted a rough region where temperatures did not fall below –10 ° C. The Šumava, nicknamed the Lungs of Europe, is the largest forest in Central Europe. The morning temperature showed a beautiful –18 ° C and my start was Modrava around the Modravský stream to Březník (Březník is not open in winter), but in front of it I turned and climbed to Černá hora, but I somehow underestimated it, because I climbed to the very top over 5 km and it was endless. I cut a path I wouldn't even walk on cross-country skis and in such frost. It had one big advantage. I was the only cross-country skier on the track. It wasn't until I reached the top that I enjoyed the view of the Arctic Šumava. At the same time, the first cross-country skiers caught up with me. I rode almost to the spring. Here is a shelter that gave me the opportunity to have lunch, and here I used to talk to a former forester, whom I had already greeted the day before. He talked about the strange protection of the National Park. When did this organization destroy something so beautiful that we had here. Yes, a huge bark beetle can be seen at the source of the Vltava. As my brother says. Nature coped – the bark beetle ate it. He talked about how sad it is to look at something like that. Then he talked about when a new Vltava Spring was created here, to which a footbridge led for 1 million crowns, but in a few years this spring was abandoned and the national park dismantled it for 250,000 CZK. Around the source of the Vltava you can see a lot of cut trees in the middle. These trees had to be destroyed on special electric platforms, internal combustion engines could not be used here, so one such tree cost CZK 1,000. These were really things that would catch you by surprise. From there I slowly drove to Kvilda. This challenging and beautiful circuit was 16 km away.
