Ferrata in the north face of the Eiger
If you are a lover of via ferrata and, like climbers, you are fascinated by the terribly beautiful north face of the Eiger, then the ferrata on Rotstock is right for you. It is not one of the most difficult, even with the best panoramas, but thanks to its location and small number of visitors, it has a unique charm.
To Rotstock via the Eiger trail
The Rotstock ferrata can be reached in two directions. Either from the cogwheel stop at Kleine Scheidegg, or from Grindelwald via the Eiger trail, which stretches under the famous north face.
Under the north wall
For those who choose the route from Grindelwald, the journey begins with a steep climb to the Alpiglen station. From here you go almost along the „contour line“ to the entrance to the ferrata itself.
View of the Schwarzhorn
There are many interesting ferratas in the Bernese Alps. One of them is located on the Schwarzhorn, which rises to almost three thousand meters and the road to Rotstock can be seen from perhaps the most beautiful side.
Rotstock
Most passages are really easy. Only at the beginning of the ferrata are a few ladders and more complicated sections. A small icefall just below the top, which you need to cross, can be a diversification.
Peak panorama
In good weather, the 4,000-meter peaks Mnich and Jungfrau can be seen from the top.
