The Czech cottage (Slovenčina Češka koča) is located in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps above the mountain village of Zgornje Jezersko. It was built here in 1900 by Czechs and it is the first mountain hut in Slovenia. Czech cottage is an excellent destination, which is relatively easily accessible. For the more demanding, there is also a ferrata and the cottage is also offered as a starting point for difficult alpine treks. At the Czech cottage you will get excellent traditional Slovenian snacks and you can even sleep here.

Ravenska Kočna valley

The starting point for the hike to Česká chata is the Ravenska kočna valley above the village of Zgornje Jezersko. Among other things, the valley offers a beautiful hiking trail for those who do not dare to go to the mountains.

View of the Czech cottage

The Czech cottage lies on a pleasant plateau close to the dividing forest and rocky and rubble terrain. You don't see her until the last moment of the ascent, she emerges out of nowhere in front of you.

Route description

From the parking lot up and back

Starting point You can find the starting point of the trek to Česká chata in the village ** Zgornje Jezersko **. You can stay in Jezersko. It is a beautiful village where you will find guesthouses, apartments and two camps. For more information, visit the [Jezersko page] (https://www.objevuj-slovinsko.cz/jezersko/). However, if you come here by car, you can park either at ** Planšarské Lake ** or a little higher in the valley ** Ravenska kočna **. From the car park you can walk to the lower station of the cable car, from where the path will take you steeply up. ### The first half of the ascent ## Steep climb through the forest From the cable car, the path leads steeply through the forest. This is the most physically demanding part. But it will only take you about ** 45 minutes ** before you climb more or less on the contour line. So this is not unmanageable. ### The second half of the ascent ## A relaxing path along the contour with beautiful views When you get out of the forest, you will have another approximately 45 minutes of relatively comfortable path, which climbs only slowly. Along the way, you will come across slightly more demanding places in the form of rock climbs, secured by ** chains, and two ladders **. From the footpath you can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding peaks of the Kamnica-Savinja Alps and the valleys of Ravenska kočna and Jezersko. ### Destination ## Cottage hidden behind the horizon until the last moment You will not see the cottage at all during the whole ascent. It will appear in front of you out of nowhere when you climb out of the last cypress tree. At first glance, you will be thrilled by its beautiful architecture, which does not deny elements of Czech folk architecture. Take a look at its interior, which is beautifully preserved. And don't forget to refresh yourself. They make excellent ** sweet tea from mountain herbs **, which will give you the energy you need after climbing. For the hungry, they have pancakes or great soups ** „enolončnice“ **. ### Way back ## The same route Like most hiking trails in Slovenia, unfortunately this one lacks an easier round trip. Therefore, you will have to return the same way. Or spend the night here and head upstairs :). ### Difficulty ## Easy ascent for less able and families with children The hike to Česká chata is ** one of the least demanding ** in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. We went out with a two-year-old child in a stretcher and we managed it without a problem. Older clever children can also manage the ascent in peace (families with children come here quite normally). However, we recommend that you consider your dexterity (or the child in terms of your own), whether you can handle ladders and places secured by chains. In case of wet or unstable weather, we recommend postponing the trip. ### For the more demanding ## It's even possible after the ferrata If a 1.5-hour climb is too little for you, you will find a more difficult route here. ** ferrata ** leads from the same starting point as the classic hiking trail. Unfortunately, it has not been tested by us, but it is evaluated very positively. Jezersko is just one of the tourist resorts in the [Kamnik-Savinja Alps] (https://www.objevuj-slovinsko.cz/…injske-alpy/), which attract tourists to its peaceful atmosphere. Compared to the Julian Alps, there are a fraction of tourists and the mountains are just as beautiful and offer plenty of hiking challenges. ** About the author **: My name is Eliška Bernardová, I studied Slovenian and Slovenia is my passion. Road to the Czech cottage

The second half of the ascent to the cottage goes through relatively slow terrain along the contour line. In some places it is necessary to overcome rocky places secured by chains and about two ladders. But the difficulty is not high.

Detail from the output

When you come out of the forest, you will have beautiful views of the mountains and valleys below you. The journey is relatively easy. We dared to climb with the baby in the stretcher. But that's to consider. We do not recommend it in wet or unstable weather due to more difficult places on the rocks. There is a risk of slipping.

Activities for children

The fact that they are counted on here is also evidenced by the fact that they have a place to swing here :)

Delicious snacks

You can strengthen yourself well at the Czech cottage. It offers completely traditional Slovenian dishes. Do not miss herbal tea and thick soups „enolončnice“.
